Inter-Southwest Medical Student Quiz Competition: Senator Lere Oyewumi Recognized for Humanitarian Leadership and Support for Medical Education

The Osun State University Medical Students Association (OSUMSA) has honored the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Lere Oyewumi, Ph.D., with the Humanitarian Leadership Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to healthcare development, educational advancement, and youth empowerment.


The award presentation was held during the Inter-Southwest Medical Student Quiz Competition, a major highlight of OSUMSA Health Week 2025. The event, themed “Advancing Academic Brilliance and Youth Empowerment,” was fully sponsored by Senator Oyewumi and brought together leading medical student associations from across the Southwest region to engage in intellectual competition, clinical reasoning, and public health discourse.


Notable guests at the event included Dr. (Mrs.) Faramade and Dr. Olanrewaju, who commended both the participants and the organizers for the quality and relevance of the program in shaping future medical professionals.


Receiving the award on behalf of the Senator, Dr. Oyewumi Azeez Olawale praised the initiative as a platform for building excellence and competence within the healthcare system. “This effort promotes the intellectual and ethical growth of young medical practitioners, a foundation for a healthier society,” he stated.


The OSUMSA President, Motadegbe Emmanuel Adeyemo, expressed appreciation for Senator Oyewumi’s consistent humanitarian support and commitment to education. “This award is a reflection of his vision, his generosity, and his unwavering belief in the potential of Nigerian youth; this award is a symbol of our collective appreciation,” he said.
