Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, PhD, has flagged off a cash grant initiative aimed at alleviating poverty and boosting economic activities across Osun West Senatorial District.
Hundreds of beneficiaries from the 10 Local Government Areas of the district received financial support at the programme’s commencement, with the senator assuring that more constituents will benefit in subsequent phases. “This is just the beginning of a continuous empowerment programme. When our people are financially empowered, it uplifts families and strengthens communities,” Senator Oyewumi said.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no resident of Osun West is left behind in the quest for economic self-sufficiency. “My people are resilient and hardworking. They deserve the best, and it is our duty as leaders to support them in every way possible,” he added.
Senator Oyewumi urged recipients to make effective use of the grants to ensure the sustainability of the initiative and attract more interventions. Some beneficiaries, who received varying amounts, expressed gratitude to Senator Oyewumi for what they described as his grassroots-focused leadership. “This support will go a long way in helping me expand my petty trading business,” one beneficiary noted.
Dignitaries at the event included Osun West Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Adesoye Oyetunde; Special Adviser to the Governor on RUWESA, Hon. Olarenwaju Odelade; and Hon. Ambali Taye Kondo, among others.
